yeah, I don't like that part. It looks like a work creation exercise that adds to the million things we already don't have enough resources to administer. If you are going to treat them the same as Rule IV and exclude Cuban/Japanese then just put them in the draft and exclude Cuban/Japanese professionals. Because bidding is more fun....and a better indicator of skill....and more fun

When I suggested fractions of millions I meant exclusively for the bonus pool money that would only be used to acquire the international free agents. The dollars bid would be irrelevant after the IFA signing period was over.

Yeah, I think if this is completely contained in one thread and completely tracked and maintained by one volunteer (I think I saw Rays raising his hand?) this would work. the 100k increments would be fine, essentially this would all be a completely separate thing that exists that would never effect our roster salary cap, etc. I think Rays original proposal would work just fine if he wants to be the one keeping track of who has how much to bid etc. Would make things interesting for the #1 team, if they really wanted someone they automatically get him but to do that would spend every single cent and couldn't get anyone else. That sort of makes tanking for that #1 spot more appealing though doesn't it?

We could always have a draft nba style and to make sure the lottery is fair we just use whatever the nba lottery ends up being

I dunno, I almost think that maybe if we do this system whoever gets the #1 overall draft pick should not get the most bidding money. Or as Mariners is saying it goes to a lottery format. Maybe take the worst 5 teams and randomize which gets slot #1 with the most money, then repeat with 6-10, 11-15, etc etc. If there is a Bryce Harper in the draft and a Yu Darvish available in this bidding or something I would be tempted to tank myself!

i think we do it like the nba. The bottom 14 clubs will be in the lottery and we can use whatever the nba lottery ends up being as it proves that there was no cheating with the lottery system and then the bottom 16 teams just go by winning percentage.

I don't like any system that requires me to pay any attention to the NBA whatsoever.

well just how the lottery turns out so no one can complain that league managers cheated with a randominzed, lottery system draft

A Yu Darvish like talent wouldn't be available for bid in this format. Players excluded from the MLB signing pool standards would need to be bid on as per our current system.

I like the idea of the bidding within a cap allotment and I'd be willing to help Rays out, though I'm perfectly fine with letting him take the reins.

Can we keep talking about this? I feel like we should all get that cap allotment, as some of the IFA bids have been simply ridiculous. Though I do think that even if you don't have the cap, this IFA cap allotment should be a totally different pool of money.

I really like this idea. I could see it being finalized in the offseason when we all have the gaping hole in our hearts without baseball.
I'd be interested to explore the NBA draft style lottery. To make it accountable, someone would have to record themselves doing the lottery picks. Preferably with another owner in the league to eliminate cheating.

Being a Jets fan, I've had a gaping hole in my heart since September of last season, haha.

Football can never fill the void that the offseason leaves. I pretty much enter into a deep depression.

Well... for this league at least. And as long as there's baseball on tv/online, I'm fine.

I'm almost as much into baseball in the offseason as I am the Regular Season. All the FA chatter, GM Meetings, trades....etc. Plus, I'm hard at work rejigging my personal Minor League ranks on a daily basis.

I'm bored at work so I'll just post a rough draft of what I'm thinking: Every team, every year would get a certain amount of bidding dollars. Once bidding is completed these dollars disappear and you get the prospects on your MiLB roster at no cost. For example the allotment of bidding dollars could be by winning percentage: 30th - 10M 29th - 9.8M 28th - 9.6M 27th - 9.4M 26th - 9.2M 25th - 9M 24 - 8.5M 23 - 8.3M 22 - 8.1M 21 - 7.9M 20 - 7.7M 19 - 7.5M 18 - 7M 17 - 6.8M 16 - 6.6M 15 - 6.4M 16 - 6.2M 14 - 6M 13 - 5.5M 12 - 5.3M 11 - 5.1M 10 - 4.9M 9 - 4.7M 8 - 4.5M 7 - 4M 6 - 3.8M 5 - 3.6M 4 - 3.4M 3 - 3.2M 2 - 3M 1 - 2.5M This would give the rebuilding teams quite an advantage while not hindering their cap numbers. It also would give the rebuilding teams another trade chip as bidding dollars could be traded. In my head this does not apply to Cuban defectors, Japanese pro's, etc and instead is just for the IFA July 2nd bidding. Bump for Brewers asking what my IFA idea was
