So let's say I sign chris capuano. I have johan, gavin floyd, and I would have him on all TPB contracts, but if they sign new contracts in the offseason would I change them to there new contract or keep them at what I signed them for.

If i understand correctly as soon as the new contract is signed, that's the player's salary and the TPB is terminated.

The only time it resets is free agency . If you bid and sign before he hits free agency, real contract takes precedence. TPB only lasts as long as a real contract is signed.

Sorry to ask a slight off topic question but where can I find the free agency rules?

Rangers is wrong.
If they sign new contracts, their new contracts take over.

so if they get a huge contract and i want to drop them. Do i pay the penalty on the new TPB contract or there actual contract and were basically just bidding for the right to these guys because there price is going to change

Here's how it works (at least in my mind). It all depends on when you sign them. So let's use Gavin Floyd as an example. I don't know how much you bid on him to win him lets say 5 million for arguments sake. You are currently on the hook for 5 million if you dropped him you would pay a 50% penalty of 2 million his TPB salary.
Most likely he will sign a minor league deal with someone so he will change to 1 million when that happens. So in his case you would be best served to wait until that happens and then look to trade him (or drop him) as he would then become a free drop since he only makes 1 million.
But yeah if a guy like that who is obviously going to sign a new deal this offseason in real life is up for bidding the contract will change when he signs that contract, so yeah really bidding a crapload on a guy like that wouldn't hurt you much cuz they will resign (although that would lock up your funds basically until it actually happens).
Does this make sense? It is kind of confusing and I am the one typing this heh.

Yes, if they sign new contracts in the off-season, after you've won bidding on them on here, their new contract would be in effect, not the TPB one. Or that's how I think it works, at least.

Yeah it makes complete sense but lets say Floyd gets like 8 million can I drop him at his tpb or his new contract

Correct on all counts. The grey area will come when he doesn't sign until after the season starts like Brian Wilson this year.

Yeah it makes complete sense but lets say Floyd gets like 8 million can I drop him at his tpb or his new contract New contract, as soon as they sign a new contract the TPB bid becomes irrelevant and the new contract takes over. But, TPB price or old contract stays until he signs a new contract.

As Cards said, new contract goes into effect when signed, unless the new contract is signed AFTER the season starts, in which case the TPD contract stands throughout the season.

If you've owned them less than a year, you would have to pay the penalty for the contract they have whenever you drop them (whether that be TPB or after they sign a new contract).
If you've had them for more than a year, you wouldn't have to pay a penalty if you drop them in the offseason.
