So Henderson Alvarez is joining an independent league team. Not sure how we have handled this in the past but does he stay at $3M until he signs with a major league organization or re-price to $500K? No big deal either way, just need to know if I need to update his salary. Apologies if this is mentioned somewhere in the rules and I don't see it. Can't remember if we've ever handled a case like this one.

Pretty sure it's similar to a player leaving to play in Korea or another country

It should be a 500K reprice. We can have someone double check

That's what I thought but wanted to double check.

I don't think the rules cover this. I'm happy to go with new contract = $500K

Why wouldn't this situation be the same as a FA where the previous salary was carried until the player signed a new contract?

How would that make sense? He signed a deal with an independent league. No diff than a player signing a contract in another country.

However, it's not a MLB or MiLB contract. I still don't see the difference as neither type are active in the MLB system. If for no other reason keep things simple.

If someone doesn't sign with an MLB or mlb affiliated team then it's not mlb. It's not that hard

I think you answered your own question Ken, it's not an MLB or MILB contract. It's an independent league contract which I'm happy to treat like all other non MLB/MILB contracts.
