Roy Smalley also struck out 114 times that year, playing all but one game in the 154 game schedule. Maybe that doesn't seem like many in the age of Drew Stubbs (205 Ks in 2011), and guys like Reynolds and Dunn, but that was a different era.
The shortstop for the NL champion Phillies, Granny Hamner, struck out just 35 times in 685 plate appearances that year. Phil Rizzuto, SS for the World Series-winning Yankees, fanned 39 times in 735 plate appearances. His teammate, Yogi Berra, caught nearly every game, and struck out 12 times all year!
Guys like Mark Reynolds and Adam Dunn can strikeout 12 times in a day-night doubleheader!

In 494 at bats Tomas Telis only struck out 35 times this year. Shoot me a PM if you want this CATCHER that can make serious contact.
PS: He is only 20 in A ball.
