Hey, thanks again for joining triple play. This is just a message to let you know how all of this works and what to do. Sorry if I’ve already mentioned some of this before and it is old news, I’m sending this to all the new guys so I’m trying to cover everything.
Step 1) Register on the proboard site tripleplaybaseball.proboards.com/index.cgi
With a username. After you do this you need to be approved by an LM, which will be done shortly after you sign up. Once you are approved you can post messages. This is important because ALL roster transactions are done on the proboards site not in the ESPN league.
Step 2) Copy and paste the roster from your old team and place it in a new thread created by you in the Organization Information section. This is just to sort of “assign” your username to the team you own and so people will know who to contact about trades etc etc. To copy the roster (highlight it and press Control+c). Then back out and start a new thread, then paste the entire roster (please include all salary information and everything that was in the old one) in this new thread. Once you get this done I’ll delete the old roster so there won’t be any confusion who owns the team. Regarding the roster, I know some of the salary information looks wrong but it is that way for a reason. This year we had free agent bidding for some players so old owners bid amounts for certain players which made their salaries high in many cases (ie, why Podsednik costs 15 million). When these free agents were bid upon the amount bid was how much the owner was willing to pay per year for the player and was to reflect how long their contract was for in real world baseball. So if a player signed a 1-year deal they have to pay whatever they bid for one year. If it was a 5-year deal (like Holliday) they had to pay the amount bid for 5 years. So in this league Matt Holliday is making 45 million per year until 2014. Hope that makes sense. All players that were not obtained in this way have their salaries recalculated every offseason to what they are really being paid. And if you have a free agent who’s contract they signed this year expires (again as in Podsednik who signed a one-year deal) their price goes down to whatever their new contract is when they sign a new deal in real baseball. It’s kind of confusing I know so if you have any questions about certain players let me know and I’ll try to explain the why and how.
Step 3) OK, now you got your rosters done and “in your name”. Now we will send you the invites for the ESPN league. Dodgers needs to send the invite for NL clubs and I will send the AL invites. This is a head to head league, we have a separate AL and NL and a whole different league where the playoffs will take place. Because we have different ESPN leagues the waiver wire will have all sorts of top notch talent available on it. Please, do not pick people up from ESPN, ALL roster transaction is done on the proboards site and once approved can be done on ESPN. Looking at your roster you may see there are lots of bench space or changes you want to make. Here’s a quick overview of how that process works:
Basically, other than trades of course, there are 2 ways to obtain unsigned players. If they are a minor league player (less than 125 ABs or 50 IP in the big leagues) you can claim them if they are not currently on someone’s roster. There is an alphabetical listing that can be found in Organization Information thread that is updated quite a bit that shows all players and if they are on that list someone already has them. If they aren’t on the list (and also you should check the team’s rosters and do a search of the player’s last name to verify) you can “claim” them. To do that simply make a thread in Roster Transactions/Bidding on Players with the players name as the title of the thread and say you are claiming him off minor league waivers. You can claim 2 minor league guys per day. Also of note, you can have minor league players on your actual MLB roster but you do have to pay them the minimum salary which is 1 million in our league. You can also obtain current MLB players that are not protected on another team’s roster but this is done by bidding on the player. If you find a player not on a roster and has over 50 IP or 125 ABs in the bigs you also post a thread with there name in Roster Transactions/Bidding on Players and say my team bids 1 mil (or more if you want to start the auction higher for any reason). When this happens other teams can bid on the player, whoever has the highest bid for a 24-hour period wins the player for that amount.
So here are some examples. Say you notice Mike Trout wasn’t on anyone’s roster (of course he is just an example). You could straight up claim him as a minor leaguer. Recently I noticed David Hernandez (pitcher on Baltimore) wasn’t on the Orioles roster or on anyone’s team. So I bid 1 million for him and ended up winning him for that price. Found Fister and Vargas recently on Seattle but they went for more money. So there are some guys out there to be had, just gotta do some research to find them. We have recently assembled a master list of all players owned in the league. This can be found in the Organization Information section and it is also an announcement.
Hope this makes some sense, if you have any questions give me a shout or ask on the cbox. We have lots of guys looking to trade (many happy to try to lowball new owners). Keep in mind this is a 30-team league so there are 29 other guys to trade with, some patience will probably find you a better deal. Ask around on the cbox or send private messages. There is also a Trade block section where you can post who you are looking to deal, what you need, etc etc.
Thanks,
Steve (royals)
