So we've been discussing on chatango if there should be a 24-hour drop window for the two teams in the World Series, since their season won't be over before the real life regular season is over.
Andrew told me that's how it apparently is, the two World Series teams aren't allowed any time to make drops without potential penalties carrying over to the 2018 season.
I'm not bringing this up because of my situation with Hector Santiago and the near-certainty that my team makes it to the Series -- I already have a contingency plan in place for when I make it to the Series, assuming this current "rule" stands -- but there's been discussion about whether there should be a window for the two teams.
Just opening it up to the league.

I actually don't mind the idea. Everyone other than the world series teams can drop players prior to the end of our playoffs and carry a penalty for only a few days but the world series teams need those players right up to the last day then get penalised if they have not owned that player for the full year.
In the situation Dan is talking about, under the current rules, if he makes the world series then his trade to acquire Santiago is not processed until after the world series which takes it through to the off season, meaning he wears a penalty through the 2018 season.
A 24 hour window (even a 72 hour window would not hurt - it's not like the off season is really short) seems more than fair.
What does everyone else think ?

I could have sworn that I was able to drop players and have the penalty come off after I was in the series last year

I could have sworn that I was able to drop players and have the penalty come off after I was in the series last year you are correct. So, Daniel is taking a small part of one rule and applying it to other rules which is not correct. Any team can drop any player any time they like. If you drop a player before the end of the season, any penalty only applies to the rest of that season. This is what you did and is totally fine. This is also what John (KC) was talking about and what I have done in previous years. If you drop a player during the last day, it is still during the season and you may only carry the penalty for an hour or so. If you drop a player during the off season and have not owned him for at least one full season, the penalty carries through until the end of the next full season. This is Dan's concern. For example : 1. if I drop Wily Peralta during the off season, as I have owned him for at least one full season, there is no penalty 2. if I drop Ian Desmond during the off season, as I have owned him for less than one full season, I would pay a 50% penalty through to the end of the next full season (ie: 2018). The rule Dan is talking about is playoff teams making trades. The rule currently says that a playoff team can make a trade but that trade is not processed until that team is either eliminated or wins the whole thing. Therefore, if Dan makes the World Series, the trades he has made in the last couple of days do not get processed until after the World Series (ie: after the season has finished. ie: the off season). Technically, using Dan's case as an example and applying the rules as above, as he doesn't acquire Santiago until after the season has finished, if he were to drop Santiago the penalty would carry through to the end of the next season (2018). Dan can drop anyone he likes prior to the end of the season or even on the last day of the season and carry no penalty into 2018. By our rules, he doesn't own Santiago until his season is over which could be the end of the world series. This is the key to Dan's problem. You are all talking about dropping players that you own. Under our current rules, Dan isn't going to own Santiago until the offseason when his trade gets processed. Sorry for War n Peace. I hope this clarifies the issue. That said, I still agree with Dan that he should get the opportunity to process his trades and make drops prior to the official end of the 2017 season. The two World Series teams are the only two that don't get to do this which I think needs changing to be fair to them.

So the short answer is the deadline for drops will be extended for 3 days after the League World Series ends. LWS ends on a Tuesday and drop deadline is Friday (pick a time)?

So, are we going to have a Free Agent Frenzy after the conclusion of the 24 hour drop window? That would be hella fun.
