League 1: This is an auction league, that contracts are limited to 1-5 years. There is also 4 rounds of minor league drafting per year. The rules are air tight, and provide no wiggle room, but I don't think there are any takeaways other than that all questions can be pointed to somewhere in the rules and they are updated regularly if there are ways to circumvent them.
1 - drafting is conducted in an open auction format.
2 - each team has 26 spots on their active roster and a salary cap of $170 to fill those spots. A team need not spend the maximum when assembling its roster. All teams must have 26 players on their active roster going into the first H2H match-up. Teams can run with less than 26 players on their active roster throughout the course of the season.
2.1 - All transaction costs, salaries, etc. are rounded up to the nearest $0.25.
2.2 - An owner with an unfilled roster must reserve $1 per open roster spot at all times.
3 - there are two auction windows that afford teams the opportunity to acquire the mandatory 26 players. The first auction window opens at Noon ET October 9th and runs until November 30th 11:59 PM ET. The second auction window opens at Noon ET February 8th and closes when all rosters are entirely filled.
4 - auctions are conducted solely within the 'Auction' section of this Proboard site under the appropriate position category for the player.
5 - any member of the league may start an auction on any eligible free agent player (see Rule 6) in the February auction window. In the October auction window there are restrictions on which players managers may create auctions for (see Rule 17).
6 – only players residing on the Yahoo lists who have attained at least 1 AB or 0.1 IP at the Major League level are eligible to be auctioned on to your active roster.
7 - in each auction window all managers are limited to having a maximum of 3 auctions that they have started running at any one time. If any manager starts another auction before one of those 3 has finished it will be closed. When one of the 3 has finished that manager may then start another. Managers may bid on any number of auctions, provided they do not have more concurrent winning bids than roster spots available.
8 - (removed)
9 - the thread title of each auction must contain the player’s name and MLB team. For the latter the three letter abbreviated format will suffice.
10 - if two managers begin an auction for the same player the first thread to be started according to the message board timestamps will take precedence and the second auction will be deleted.
11 - auctions may be started at any $ amount so long as it is a minimum of $1. Subsequent bids can raise by anything so long as they are multiples of $0.25. So $X/X.25/X.50/X.75 are allowed.
12 - (removed)
13 - all legal bids are final and may not be retracted.
14 - you are not allowed to place a bid, or multiple bids, if the amount(s) you bid will take you over your salary cap or if the number of positions left to fill on your roster do not allow for it. Anyone repeatedly bidding beyond their salary or roster constraints will have their bidding rights suspended for 48 hours.
15 - to win an auction in either of the aforementioned auction windows you must have the highest uncontested bid on that player for a period of 24 hours.
16 – it is very important to the successful running of this league that all managers stay on top of their salary cap and rosters. It is each owner’s responsibility to manage their own rosters and thereby comply with all salary and roster rules; the official roster pages are simply a league convenience.
17 - all predefined auction rules apply in both auction windows. The sole variance between the auction windows is that during October managers may only put up for auction free agent players coming off of their own roster (see Rules 28 and 29).
18 - (removed) Contracts
19 - when you win a player in auction you must then assign that player a contract.
20 - the annual salary of the contract is equal to the winning auction bid.
21 - each team has 26 contracts available to assign to players on its active roster, which vary in length from 1 year to 5 years.
22 - each team can assign:
- a maximum of 2 five year contracts - a maximum of 3 four year contracts - a maximum of 4 three year contracts - a maximum of 6 two year contracts - a maximum of 26 one year contracts
* note that the 15 multi-year contracts listed above represent a permanent fixed set amount for each team, they do not regenerate into a fresh set each year and managers have to accommodate their current playing staff and future signings into this contract framework.
23 - you are not obligated to assign all of your available multi-year contracts if you do not wish to do so, and it is possible to assign every player to just a 1 year contract.
24 - in addition to the contracts listed in Rule 22, managers are also entitled to a single 'prospect contract' each year (see Rule 129).
25 - all players won during the two auction windows must have contracts assigned to them by the start of the season. You can assign contracts to players as you win them, or wait until your roster is fully acquired before deciding. The deadline for assigning contracts to all players on your roster won during these auction windows is 11:59pm ET March 24th. Any players without contracts assigned to them by this date will automatically receive a 1 year contract by default. For assigning contracts to players won during the season please see Rule 49.
26 - when assigning contracts you must create a thread for that player in the “Contracts” sub-board listing the contract length assigned.
27 - once a player has been assigned a contract, it cannot be changed. The length of the contract you assign to a player follows that player, including when he is traded, until he is dropped (see Rule 53) or the period defined in Rule 28 is reached.
28 - at 11:59 PM ET October 3rd, the new league season begins and all players on rosters will have their contract length decremented 1 year at this point. Teams are now allowed to trade any players on their rosters.
29 - at this juncture, players who were on 1 year contracts will be classified as free agents, and upon expiration of their contract will be removed from the official team roster threads on this board. Players classified as free agents in this way will be the only players eligible for the October auction window and the team option process (see Rules 30-33).
Team Option
30 - Starting at 00:01 PM ET October 5th there follows a three day period before the beginning of the October auctions when managers, if they so choose, are allowed to give a contract extension to a single player on their team entering free agency.
31 - (removed)
32 - the cost of extending a player depends upon their position in the Yahoo player rankings at the end of the season, as defined by 'rank', not 'o-rank'.
- players ranked [1-25]* cost $12.5 + 100% previous years salary - players ranked [26-50]* cost $10 + 100% previous years salary - players ranked [51-100]*cost $7.5 + 50% previous years salary - players ranked 101* and above cost $5 + 50% previous years salary
* ='s inclusive
33 - when optioning a player, that player may be assigned to any of the contract lengths that you have available.
Adding Players
34 - with the exception of DL replacements (see Rule 62), players can only be added to your active roster via the auction process, as laid out above.
35 - to sign a player via auction during the season a notification about the intended auction must first be posted on our Yahoo league message board, which must include the name of the player you are creating the auction for. This will ensure that all managers are aware of the impending free agent auction and that they have fair warning to contest the bidding process.
36 - once a manager posts a notification on the Yahoo league page of their intention to create an auction for a player they are obligated to then proceed with that auction.
37 - immediately after posting the auction notification on the Yahoo league page an auction thread must be created on the Proboard.
38 - if the auction thread is created prior to the notification on the Yahoo league page, then the auction start time, and therefore the time of the opening bid, will be determined by the timestamp of the notification on the Yahoo league page.
39 - any auction will be deemed void until the notification is posted on the Yahoo league page, which the commissioner will do to make everyone aware.
40 - when creating an auction, if a manager does not have a vacant roster spot then that manager must declare on the auction thread, alongside his opening bid, which player he intends to cut if he successfully wins the auction. The dropped player will be subject to the cap penalty (see Rule 51). If the player to be dropped is on the DL then a manager must also declare which DL replacement he is cutting, assuming that this is necessitated by their roster conditions, at the same time. Other managers who wish to contest the bidding process, and who also do not have a vacant roster spot, must declare who it is they intend to drop from their roster if they win the auction, and must do so by including the name of the player they are dropping - and, if necessary, which DL replacement is also to be dropped - alongside their first bid on the auction thread. If a manager participating in an auction does not declare a player to be dropped, and they do not have a vacant roster spot, then their bid will be deemed invalid. If a manager does have a vacant roster spot then he must state “open slot”, instead. Managers who don’t win the auction are not required to drop their stated player.
41 - once a manager has stated which player they intend to drop if they win the auction they may not switch to a different player as the bids progress. If a manager joins the bidding on a second auction and declares there that he will drop the same player as in the first, then he will not be able to go back in on the original auction in which he was involved if he has the current highest bid in the second auction, as it would not be possible to win two auctions while only dropping one player.
To clarify; it is possible for a manager to be involved in multiple auctions after having declared the same player as the stated drop in those auctions, provided that that manager only has the current highest bid in one of those auctions at any given time.
42 - the salary of the player you intend to drop does not count towards the available salary you can bid. If you wish to gain extra salary for bidding you can drop a player either before or during the auction to free up cap space. If you fail to win the auction after dropping a player in this way then, as in Rule 54, you would have to sign a different player if you wanted to refill the vacated slot, and not the player you cut to free up salary.
43 - as soon as a player has been sold that player will be transferred from the Yahoo player pool to the Yahoo roster of the team that won the auction by either the commissioner or the manager that won the player, and any corresponding drop will also be made at that time. If the player to be added belongs to a MLB team involved in an ongoing game at the time the auction closes then the add will be made the following day. Similarly, if the player that is to be dropped to make room belongs to a MLB team involved in an ongoing game at the time the auction closes, and that player is in the manager’s line up, then the roster move(s) will be implemented the following day.
44 - from the close of the October auction window until the opening of the February auction window it is not possible to add players to your active roster via auction.
45 - once the February auction window has closed auctions can be created any time after the DL replacement add period (see Rule 84) has ended up until 23:59 ET on 31st August. This represents the last available date to begin auctions on players during a season (“roster freeze”).
46 - until 11:59pm ET on the last Sunday before the start of the first H2H match-up is not deemed to be ‘during’ the season, and so the 48 hour rule will still apply to auctions created on or before this date. After this date a manager only has to have the highest bid for 24 hours.
47 - from the end of the February auction window until the conclusion of the Minor League Draft, any players remaining on the Yahoo lists who still retain rookie status (as defined in Rule 114) may not be put up for auction.
48 - from the conclusion of the Minor League Draft until 23:59 ET on 31st August, any player auctioned must conform to the criteria stipulated in Rule 6*, and managers may face further individual restrictions on players they may auction as per Rule 54.
* a player can be put up for auction as soon as the game in which he satisfied the minimum AB or IP requirements has officially ended and which has been designated as 'Final' by MLB.
49 - any player won in auction before the contract assignment deadline will be required to have a contract assigned to them by this same date. Any player won in auction after this date will have 72 hours from the point at which the auction concludes to have a contract length assigned to him. Players not assigned contract lengths in this 72 hour period will automatically be assigned to a 1 year contract.
Dropping Players
50 - a player will be considered to have been dropped when and only when a manager performs this action on the Yahoo league page.
51 - with the exceptions of Rules 56 and 57, dropping any player from your active roster carries a salary cap penalty.
a - if you choose to drop a player from your active roster that is in the final, or only, year of his contract, you must offer a buyout for a total of one half of one year’s salary to that player, which will be decremented from your total cap limit.
b - if you drop a player from your active roster that is not in the final year of his contract, you must offer a buyout for a total of one half of one year’s salary to the player for the current year, and one fourth of one year’s salary to the player for each remaining year on the contract, which will be decremented from your total cap limit for the appropriate years.
For example, a player won for $5 in 2010 who is given a 3 year contract, and who is dropped in 2010, will incur a penalty of $2.5 in 2010, and a penalty of $1.25 in both 2011 and 2012. So in this example, your salary cap for 2011 and 2012 would become $168.75, as opposed to $170. This would then free up $2.5 in salary in 2010, and $3.75 salary in 2011 and 2012, which you could then reallocate elsewhere.
52 – (removed)
53 - once a player has been dropped, that player then becomes entirely freed from his contract. He becomes a free agent without a contract and so can have different contract terms attributed to him when picked up by another manager.
54 - if you drop a player you are not allowed to resign that player for the remainder of the season, including as a DL replacement, until that player has been contractually signed and dropped from the active roster of another manager.
55 - when a player is dropped from a roster, the player will be placed on waivers for a period of 48 hours. The 48 hour waiver period for a dropped player will commence at the timestamp of the drop on the Yahoo league page. During this waiver period the player remains eligible to be put up for auction by any other manager, but he may not be added by anyone as a DL replacement until he has cleared waivers.
* note that we do not use the Yahoo waiver process, our waiver process is determined purely by the timestamps so please remember to check the last 48 hours of the transaction history on the Yahoo league page to check specific drop times for specific players.
56 – a player who has officially retired, for whatever reason, either voluntarily or involuntarily, may be dropped from your active roster at any time for zero cap hit, regardless of that player’s remaining contract length and salary. If a manager drops such a player, and that player then reverses his decision to retire and carries on playing, then the manager who dropped the player is not liable for any backdated cap penalty, providing the drop was made before the player announced his intention to continue playing.
57 - any new manager who joins the league will be given a one week grace period in which he will be allowed to cut up to two players from his active roster who are listed as NA by Yahoo, for zero cap hit, regardless of the remaining contract lengths and salaries of those players. If a new manager joins the league once our Yahoo league has closed for the offseason, and consequently the status of players is not visible, then that manager will be given the one week grace period at the beginning of the following season, once Yahoo has reopened.
58 - with the exception of Rules 56 and 57, players can only be cut from your active roster after the DL replacement add period (see Rule 84) has ended up until 23:59 ET on 31st August* **. At no other time can players be dropped from an active roster. This is applicable to players that you have carried over from the previous season, and to players that you have won in either of the auction windows.
* if you have an auction that is still running after this date, and you have declared a player to be dropped, then that player may still be dropped if you successfully win the auction.
** please note that although this date signals the last opportunity to cut a player the limitations of our Yahoo league page may not allow you to perform this action if players from teams with a game in progress are involved. Managers will need to account for this accordingly.
59 - any player on an active roster with rookie status may not be dropped until the Minor League Draft has finished.
Disabled List
60 – each team has four DL & 1 NA spots available to them.
61 - a player is only considered to be on of the DL/NA when designated as such by Yahoo. A player will be considered to be reactivated from the DL/NA if either designated as such by Yahoo, or if it is clearly apparent that his return to the lineup for his MLB team is imminent (ie he is scheduled to be in his MLB teams starting line up on the same game day that you drop his DLR/NAR).
62 – if a player on your active roster goes on the DL/NA you may immediately move him to an available DL/NA spot and add any eligible player (see Rule 63) from the free agent pool, or from your minor league roster (see Rule 140), as a DL/NA replacement (DLR/NAR), up to a maximum of four times for a DL player and one time (5 Total) for NA player concurrently. When adding a player from the free agent pool as a DLR/NAR that player must remain on your roster for a minimum of 1 game day so as not to abuse his waiver status as per Rule 71.
63 - players ineligible to be picked up as DLR/NARs are:
- players involved in active auctions - players on waivers (see Rules 55 and 71) - players on another team’s minor league roster - players that you have previously cut from your active roster (rule 54) - players who have recently made their major league debut (with the exception of such players from your own minor league roster). Such players become available to be used as DLR/NARs 3 calendar days after* they have attained at least 1 AB or 0.1 IP in a game that has been declared 'final' by MLB. Ex: player plays in his first game on Monday, he will be available as a DLR/NAR Thursday morning, PT. Such players availability for DLR/NAR service also depends on their waiver status; it is not possible to add such a player if he is still on waivers (see below).
*refers to the new Yahoo 'day' which begins at 00:01 PT.
- players added by Yahoo to the player pool during the season are subject to 48 hour waiver restrictions from the date they were added to the player pool and must clear waivers before becoming eligible for use as a DLR/NAR. A player added by Yahoo on a Monday will become available for use as a DLR/NAR on a Wednesday. Such players must also have attained a minimum of 1 AB or 0.1 IP the day before they can be added (see above) regardless of when they cleared waivers.
64 – players added from the FA pool as DLR/NARs cost $1, and may only be allocated a DLR/NAR contract and as such are not considered part of your active roster. If you do not have sufficient salary remaining then you cannot add the player. You will have to free up cap space either by dropping a player, or through trading.
65 - (removed)
66 – DLR/NAR contracts are temporary, and at their maximum can only last the length of the season.
67 – when activating a player from the DL/NA back onto your roster, a player signed as a DLR/NAR may be dropped for zero cap hit.
68 - players that are signed to a DLR/NAR contract are not tied to a specific player on the DL/NA. You may choose to keep the same player on a DLR/NAR contract if you have multiple players rotating between your active roster and the DL/NA at the same time.
69 - when a player is activated after being on the DL/NA, a manager has two game days in which to drop a DLR/NAR. So if a player is activated from the DL/NA on a Monday, a manager has until before the commencement of Wednesday’s MLB games to drop a DLR/NAR. If a manager does not drop a DLR/NAR in that period the commissioner will make the necessary drop for that team. In the event that the team has more than one DLR/NAR the commissioner will drop the DLR/NAR who was added specifically for the returning player. If an owner is late with a drop, and/or if the commissioner has to make the drop, the team will be charged a DLR/NAR drop cap hit as normal, irrespective of whether there was a qualifying transaction.
70 - you may not make use of a player activated from the DL/NA and his DLR/NAR at the same time. For example, if you reactivate a player from the DL/NA and move him to an empty roster spot then it would be possible to use both the player and his DLR/NAR at the same time. This is not allowed, either the player stays in a DL/NA spot for up to two days as in Rule 69 or if activated a DLR/NAR must be dropped.
71 - players dropped as DLR/NARs are subject to the same 48 hour waiver rule as players cut from your active roster.
72 - if you drop a DLR/NAR without a player on your DL/NA being activated, then the 50% cap penalty will apply to the dropped DLR/NAR, with the exception of Rules 74 and 75.
73 - if you wish to swap DLR/NARs by dropping the player you are currently using and switching to a different player then this action carries with it the 50% cap penalty on the dropped DLR/NAR.
74 - if you have a DLR/NAR who himself goes on the DL/NA, or who becomes designated as NA, then he may be dropped for zero cap hit and a fresh DLR/NAR may be picked up and installed in his place. A manager would not be able to add a fresh DLR/NAR for a current DLR/NAR should the current DLR/NAR go on the DL/NA. DLR/NARs can only be attached to players on the active roster, and not to other DLR/NARs.
75 - if you drop a player from your active roster who is listed as DL/NA then a DLR/NAR can be attached to that player and that DLR/NAR can be cut for zero cap hit when both players are dropped in combination.
76 – if you have a DLR/NA R that you wish to move to your active roster, then this can be done using the regular auction process, using the predefined auction rules. Throughout the auction the DLR/NAR will remain on your roster and will of course stay there if you win the auction. If the auction is won by another manager then the player will be removed from your roster and placed instead on the roster of the winning team as soon as he is sold. The $1 DLR/NAR fee assigned to the player will count as available salary during the auction, if necessary.
77 – you can only create auctions for DLR/NARs on your own roster, and auctions for them must be started before the DL/NA replacement player is scheduled to go back to the FA pool, see Rule 69. In this case, the player must still return to the pool on schedule, but is ineligible to be used as a DLR/NAR by anyone else.
78 - auctions for DLR/NARs onto your active roster can be done up until the roster freeze (rule 45).
79 - if you wish to swap DLR/NARs as in Rule 73 then this can only be done up until 23:59 ET the day before our playoffs begin. During the playoffs DLR/NARs already on rosters will be frozen, with the exception of circumstances stipulated in Rule 74, although you can however still pick up DLR/NARs for any new injuries you sustain during the playoff period. And if you have a player come off the DL/NA in the playoff period then a DLR/NAR must still be dropped, as per Rule 69.
* please note that although this date signals the last opportunity to perform this action the limitations of our Yahoo league page may not allow for it if players from teams with a game in progress are involved. Managers will need to account for this accordingly.
80 - once the regular season of our Yahoo league has ended, managers who did not make, or have been eliminated from, the playoffs are not allowed to pick up or drop DLR/NARs, even if they have corresponding events.
81 – at the end of the season, any player assigned to a DLR/NAR contract will be removed from the roster and will not be eligible for either the October auction or the team option contract.
82 - managers may not pick up DL/NA replacement players during the October auction window.
83 - (removed)
84 - twelve hours from the last player being marked as SOLD! in the February auction window, according to the message board timestamp, DLR/NARs will be allowed to be picked up before any further auctions can be created and players can be dropped. Players with rookie status may not be added as DLR/NARs until conclusion of the Minor League Draft.
Trading
85 - to conduct a trade a thread must be created in the ‘pending trades’ section of this site. The thread must contain a poll to allow other managers the chance to either approve or veto the trade. Polls must be set to last for 48 hours (with the exception of Rule 98). After creating the trade thread a trade notification posting must be made on the Yahoo league page.*
*this is not possible during the offseason when the Yahoo league has closed and so only the ‘pending trade’ portion need be posted.
86 – all trades are subject to the league veto process but will be automatically vetoed by the commissioner if a trade will put either party involved over their salary cap or active roster limits. 6 votes are required to veto a trade. A trade that does not receive 6 veto votes will pass and 11 yes votes guarantee a trade will pass. Regardless of the vote result trades will only officially clear after the poll expiry date.
87 – when a trade is successful the commissioner will switch the players involved to the appropriate teams on the Yahoo league page as soon as the trade has officially cleared (when possible*). The players moved will be added to the bench and not the starting lineup unless an explicit request for the commissioner to do otherwise is stated publicly on the trade thread.
* If any player involved in a trade is in the starting Yahoo line up of an active roster, or from a minor league roster and being used as a DLR in the Yahoo starting line up, and belongs to a MLB team with a game in progress at the time the trade clears then all players involved in the trade will be moved at the next opportunity the following day. This is because such players are not editable on Yahoo once their games have begun.
If players involved in a trade belong to a MLB team with a game in progress at the time the trade clears, and those players reside purely on a minor league roster, then all players will be considered moved upon the trade clearing.
88 - trades can be conducted at any time, including the offseason, but the trade posting deadline for any particular season is 11:59pm ET on Sunday of Week 17 of the regular season.
89 - any trade made after the trade deadline does not complete until the close of the option/call-up window of the following season.
90 - when a trade is completed the player(s) being traded are traded at the same salary and remaining length of contract.
91 - players without contracts assigned to them may not be traded.
92 – because contracts follow players (Rule 27), it is possible through trading to end up with more players tied to a specific contract length than would be allowed under Rule 22.
93 - it is possible to include financial concessions as part of any trade: “Cash Considerations”. A cash consideration is the simple handover of cash from one manager to another.
94 - (Removed)
95 – if a trade is uneven in terms of the number of players involved on either side then the team getting the most players will have to drop a player to make room if that team does not have sufficient available empty roster spots, and that player will be subject to the cap penalty. Any player being dropped in this way must be declared in the trade details.
96 - players assigned to DL replacement contracts may not be included in trades.
97 - (removed)
98 – during the offseason there will be a festive break. Managers are not expected to be checking in frequently during this period, and so any trades posted from 00:00 ET on 1st December up until 23:59 ET on 15th January will need to have their veto polls set to run until 12:00 ET on 18th January. If any trades during this break period receive the eleven votes needed to automatically pass before 12:00 ET on 18th January, then they will go through as soon as the eleventh yes vote is cast.
99 – any sort of trade in this league is possible. Multi-team trades, salary dumps, cash considerations etc. Trade clauses (no trade, no option etc.) can also be inserted into trades. Use your imagination within the fair play spirit of this league. With that in mind, try not to abuse the right to veto trades, as anything goes.
100 - any details posted on a trade thread may not be altered in any way. Any and all stated conditions will be adhered to until any explicit deadline that may exist which has the effect of annulling those conditions has expired.
101 - if you have a trade vetoed then you are not allowed to repost the same trade.
Minor League Rules
Rosters
102 - teams have their own Minor League Roster (MLR) for amassing rookies and/or prospects. Managers are required to keep an up to date record of their MLR on their team’s roster thread.
103 – all players on the MLRs are protected, meaning nobody is allowed to create an auction for a player currently on an MLR, or add a player from another team’s MLR as a DL replacement.
Drafting
104 - the Minor League Draft (MLD) that allows managers the opportunity to augment their MLR begins at Noon ET on March 8th, or the day after the February auction window has closed, whichever is later. The yearly MLD represents the only opportunity to draft players onto your MLR.
105 - the MLD is conducted within the 'minor league drafts' section of this Proboard, on the appropriate sub-board for the year in question.
106 - there are four draft rounds each year.
107 - at the beginning of each season all sixteen teams are awarded a single default pick for each round of the following seasons MLD. A team’s total number of picks in the MLD can increase or decrease from the default four overall picks through trading, and a team’s picks for the prevailing seasons MLD will be those that have been accumulated from the first day of the preceding season up until 11:59pm ET on the 30th November of the current season.
108 – teams are allocated a position in the draft based upon their regular season finish (win %) of the previous season. The team that finished in sixteenth place will receive the first pick, while the team that finished in first place will receive the sixteenth pick. All other teams in-between these two extremes will be aligned to a draft position in accordance with that principle. The draft is non-snaking, meaning the draft position for each team will be maintained for each and every round.
109 - any blatant indication that a team has purposefully tanked in its performance, deliberately negating its competitiveness with the sole intention of gaining a higher draft position, will be considered an abuse of the system. Such abuses will result in the forfeiture of the higher draft position gained in this way and discretion will be exercised to determine the final draft position of that team.
110 - the draft method employed is the traditional standard ‘pick’ format. Managers are required to simply state the name of the player, and his parent club, on the appropriate thread when it is their turn to pick.
111 - Teams will have 24 hours to make a pick. If a manager has not made his pick within 24 hours of the previous pick declaration, that pick will be skipped and the draft may continue. The manager of the skipped pick may make his selection at any time but cannot select a player that has been drafted since he was skipped.
The pick clock does not start until the official start of the draft according to the calendar.
112 - the draft will officially conclude with the scheduled sixty-fourth pick. In the eventuality that a manager who has had a pick, or picks, skipped has not drafted his full allocation of prospects by this time then those unused picks will be carried over to the following seasons MLD. Any unused picks that are carried over will be tagged on to the end of the equivalent draft round the following year. If multiple teams have unused picks for the same round and same year then the order they are tagged on in the subsequent years draft will reflect the draft order of the year those picks are from. If unused draft picks are carried over from year to year, then newer picks will take preference over older ones, which will fall to the back of the queue.
113 - once a manager has declared which player he is selecting that decision may not be retracted for any reason.
Player eligibility
114 - to determine whether or not a player qualifies as eligible for the MLD the following definition of 'rookie' will be used:
“A player shall be considered a rookie unless, during a previous season or seasons, he has exceeded 130 at bats (AB) or 50 innings pitched (IP) in the Major Leagues”.
Any player who has not surpassed rookie status is eligible to be drafted to a MLR. This means that any such player left on the Yahoo player lists after the conclusion of the February auction is eligible to be drafted to a MLR, and also applies to any and all such players who are not on the Yahoo player lists. Players from international leagues, such as NPB, KBO etc., as well as unattached international free agents, are also eligible to be drafted to a MLR provided they also qualify with rookie status at the MLB level.
115 – any player with exactly 130 AB or 50 IP shall still be considered a rookie.
116 - for bookkeeping purposes, the official player pages at MLB.com will be used to determine a players number of AB and IP.
117 – from the close of the February auction window up until the conclusion of the MLD, any player on the player list of our Yahoo league page with rookie status may not be added to an active roster via the regular auction process and may not be added as a DL replacement until the draft is complete. Such players remain protected for the duration of the MLD.
Promoting players
118 – there are three windows for promoting players from your MLR to your active roster:
- window one* opens on 00:01 PM ET October 5th and remains open for three days, paralleling the option period.
- window two* opens in early February, shortly after Yahoo Fantasy Baseball reopens, and remains open until the close of the auction window or the last day of February, whichever occurs first.
- window three* opens once the DL replacement add period has ended and closes at 11:59pm ET on the 31st August**, this date signalling the last opportunity to promote a player during a season.
* note that in window one a player will be promoted via the required notification. A declaration of intent to promote a player during windows two and three will not constitute a promotion. In windows two and three a player will only be considered promoted when physically added to that teams active roster on Yahoo.
** note that while this date signals the last opportunity to promote a player the limitations of our Yahoo league page may not make adding and dropping players possible at this specific time as it is not possible to perform either of these actions when players from teams that have a game in progress are involved. Managers will need to account for this accordingly.
119 - during window one managers are obligated to make a decision on any and all players on their MLR who have exceeded rookie status. Players that have accumulated a minimum of 131 AB at the MLB level or a minimum of 50.1 IP at the MLB level are required to either be promoted to the active roster or released from the MLR at this point.
120 – during any of the three windows managers are permitted to promote players from their MLR to their active roster who have not exceeded rookie status. Promotions for such players are purely at the managers discretion, but to be eligible for promotion a player is required to have finished the previous season on the player lists of our Yahoo league page if being called up in window one, or to be on the Yahoo player lists for the prevailing season if being called up in windows two or three.
121 – when you promote a player from your MLR to your active roster during window three, and you do not have an empty roster spot, then you will need to cut a player from your active roster to make room, and that player will be subject to the cap penalty. If you should find yourself with a vacant roster spot then you are not required to cut a player. Players may not be cut from your active roster during windows one and two but managers will have the convenience of empty roster spots at these times.
122 – when promoting a player from your MLR to your active roster a notification of this must be made in the 'minor league adds and cuts' section of this Proboard, along with the contract length that you are assigning the player to.
123 – there are no limits on the amount of players you can promote during any window.
124 - with the exception of Rule 141 there is no backward motion between the active roster and the MLR. Once a player has been promoted from your MLR to your active roster he may not be sent back to the MLR.
125 - players not promoted will remain stored on your MLR indefinitely, their rookie status being reevaluated at the beginning of each new season, and there is no maximum on the amount of players you can store on your MLR.
Salaries
126 – when promoting a player from your MLR to your active roster there is a salary cost attached to the player, and so to promote the player you must have the sufficient salary space needed in order to make the move.
players drafted to the MLR have the following default salaries assigned to them on their promotion to the active roster:
- players drafted in the 1st round cost $3.5 in the season you promote them, $5.25 in their 2nd season and $7 in the third, fourth and fifth years.
- players drafted in the 2nd round cost $2.5 in the season you promote them, $3.75 in their 2nd season and $5 in the third, fourth and fifth years.
- players drafted in both the 3rd and 4th rounds cost $1.5 in the season you promote them, $2.25 in their second season and $3 in the third, fourth and fifth years.
127 - if you promote a player from your MLR to your active roster, then decide to option that player when his contract expires, then the base salary used to determine his option cost will be $3, $5 or $7, depending on the round the player was drafted.
Contracts
128 - players promoted from the MLR to the active roster may be assigned to any of the contract lengths listed in Rule 22 that you have free and available to you.
129 - in addition to the contracts listed in Rule 22 every team has a solitary prospect contract at its disposal that can be assigned to one promoted rookie every season. Once the prospect contract has been used it can not be used again, even if the player it was originally assigned to has departed your roster for whatever reason.
130 - the prospect contract can only be assigned to one player promoted from the MLR to the active roster during any of the three promotion windows. It can not be assigned to players with rookie status who have been signed via the regular auction process.
131 - when designating a player to the prospect contract that player can be assigned to any of the contract lengths listed in Rule 22, irrespective of how many players you currently have on your active roster at that contract length. A player on a prospect contract will not occupy any of the fifteen multi-year contract lengths on your active roster, this allows managers more flexibility in calling up prospects during an ongoing season.
132 - at the beginning of each season, any player who was assigned a prospect contract during the preceding season will transition from the prospect contract to a regular active roster contract, with the appropriate diminution in contract length. This then frees up the prospect contract for use in the new season.
Dropping
133 - at the beginning of each season, during window one (see Rule 118), any player(s) on your MLR who have exceeded rookie status that you do not wish to promote to your active roster are required to be released from your MLR back into the player pool.
134 - during window one managers may also release prospects from their MLR who have not exceeded rookie status at their own discretion.
135 - when releasing players from your MLR during this period a notification must be made in the 'minor league adds and cuts' section of this Proboard.
136 - players may not be dropped from the MLR at any other time.
137 - once a player has been released from your MLR you may not redraft that player in the subsequent MLD, assuming he is still eligible, nor can you sign that player for the rest of that season until he has been added and dropped from the active roster of another team, at which point you will have to create a regular auction to add him to your active roster – you could not simply decide to re-add the player back to your MLR.
138 - there is no cap hit involved when releasing a player from your MLR.
139 - if you promote a player from your MLR to your active roster, and then cut that player at some point in the future, then the salary attributed to the player in the year in which he was dropped will be used as the base salary for calculating the cap penalty.
For example, a player drafted in the first round will cost $3.5 in the season you promote them, $5.25 in their second season and $7 in the third, fourth and fifth years. So if the player was dropped in the second year of his contract then $5.25 would be used as the base salary for determining the cap penalty, which in this example would be $2.625 (rounded up to $2.75) for that year, and $1.3125m (rounded up to $1.50) for every subsequent year of their contract.
DL Replacements
140 - during the season it is possible to use a player on your MLR as a DL replacement. When adding a player in this circumstance you must clarify on the Yahoo league page that you are adding him as a DL replacement, and that the move does not constitute any longer term promotion to the active roster. The player will cost the usual $1 DL replacement fee.
141 - when an injured player returns from the DL then it is possible to send the player called up as a DL replacement back to the MLR. Players sent back to the MLR after being relieved of DLR duties are not subject to the same 48 hour waiver restrictions as per Rule 71 and can be added again as DLRs as soon as the need arises.
Trading
142 - the trading of players on your MLR, as well as the trading of picks for future minor league draft rounds, is permissible. These can be included as a part of any trade.
143 - (Removed)
144 - you may not exchange picks for future minor league drafts beyond the following season in trades.
145 - (Removed)
146 - (Removed)
147 - (Removed)
148 - (Removed)
149 - (Removed)
150 - (Removed)
151 - there is no limit to how many players you can add onto your MLR via trade.

League 2: This is another auction league that I am no longer part of. The rules are fine but the ability of managers to abide them, and for the commish to enforce them was challenging. Similar in that is an auction league with limited contracts. Again, I don't know that there are any takeaways from it.
Major League Rules Rosters Drafting Contracts Right-to Match (RFA) Team Option (RFA) Transactions Waivers Adding Players Dropping Players Non Active Spots Disabled List Trading Awards Statement of Activity / Code of Conduct Minor League Rules Eligibility Transactions Draft Draft Details and Promotions
Major League Rules Rosters
1.1 - there will be a 30 Player max Major League Roster (not including N/A or DL spots)
1.2 - starting lineup positions: C, 1B, 2B, SS, 3B, IF, LF, CF, RF, OF, UTIL SP, SP, SP, SP, SP, RP, RP, RP, P, P, P BN, BN, BN, BN, BN, BN, BN, BN
1.3- all starting positions must be kept filled at all times with an active player
1.4 - there will also be 18 non scoring roster spots, 8 Bench Spots, & 5 DL Spots that can be filled as a GM sees fit.
1.5 - the active roster on Yahoo must match exactly the active roster on Proboards. When a move is made on Proboards, the corresponding move has to be made on Yahoo. No players that are in your Minor League Roster (MLR) can be rostered on Yahoo Auction Drafting
2.1 - drafting is conducted in an open auction format.
2.2 - each team has 30 spots on their active roster and a salary cap of $120 to fill those spots. A team need not spend the maximum when assembling its roster. All teams must have a Major League Roster (MLR) player in each of the 22 starting positions at all times. Teams can run with less than 22-30 players on their active roster throughout the course of the season, so long as all of the roster spots are filled with active Major League players (not NA or DL)
2.3 - minimum Bid is 1.00, bids are increments of 0.25
2.4 - all transaction costs, salaries, etc. are rounded to the nearest 0.25.
2.5- all players who are on active roster count towards Major League Salary Cap (including DL players)
2.6 - The auction window to acquire the players to fill minimum 22 starting positions opens at Noon ET February 1st and closes Noon ET March 15th.
2.7 - players whose contracts have expired and players with a right-to-match tag are added to the off-season free agency window that begin February 1st.
2.8 - auctions are conducted solely within the 'Free Agency' section of this Proboard site.
2.9 - any member of the league may start an auction on any eligible free agent player in the February auction window.
2.10 – only players residing on the Yahoo lists who have attained at least 1 AB or 0.1 IP at the Major League level are eligible to be auctioned on to your active roster.
2.11 - in each auction window all managers are limited to having a maximum of 2 auctions that they have started running at any one time. If any manager starts another auction before one of those 2 has finished it will be closed. When one of the 2 has finished that manager may then start another. Managers may bid on any number of auctions, provided they do not have more concurrent winning bids than roster spots available.
2.12 - players that have been picked via auction during the MLB calendar year can not be sent down to the MILB unless their respective MLB team has also demoted them
2.13 - the thread title of each auction must contain the players name, MLB team and Yahoo listed positions. For the MLB team, the three letter abbreviated format will suffice.
2.14 - auctions may be started at any $ amount so long as it is a minimum of $1. Subsequent bids can raise by anything so long as they are multiples of $0.25. So $X/X.25/X.50/X.75 are allowed.
2.15 - you are not allowed to place a bid, or multiple bids, if the amount(s) you bid will take you over your salary cap or if the number of positions left to fill on your roster do not allow for it.
2.16 - to win an auction in Free Agency you must have the highest uncontested bid on that player for a period of 24 hours.
2.17 – it is very important to the successful running of this league that all managers stay on top of their salary cap and rosters. It is each owner’s responsibility to manage their own rosters and thereby comply with all salary and roster rules.
2.18 - You are not allowed to make a trade, or bid that will put you over the salary cap for subsequent seasons.
2.19 - There is the possibility to carry over up to 10.00 of unused cap space from 2016 into 2017. However as of 2017, there will no longer be a carry over for future years. Contracts
3.1 - when you bid on a player to auction you must follow this pay structure:
$1.0-3.0 1-3yr $3.25-5.75 2-4yrs $6.00- 9.25 3-6yrs $9.50 - up 4-6yrs
3.2 - the leading bid on a player is the GM that has committed the most money to that player in auction. For instance a bid of 1.00 for 3 years is greater than that of 2.50 for 1 year.
3.3 - each team has 30 contracts available to assign to players on its active roster, which vary in length from 1 year to 6 years.
3.4 - once a player has been assigned a contract, it cannot be changed. The length of the contract you assign to a player follows that player, including when he is traded, until he is dropped
3.5 - at 11:59 PM ET October 10th, the new league season begins and all players on rosters will have their contract length decremented 1 year at this point.
3.6 - at this juncture, players who were on 1 year contracts will be classified as free agents, and upon expiration of their contract will be removed from the official team roster threads on this board.
Right-to Match (RFA)
4.1 - Each manager will have a chance to match a winning bid made on one restricted free agents, that they will choose from November 1st to November 6th. If your RFA is auctioned and won by another GM, you will have 24 hours from the conclusion of the auction to determine if you will match the bid or allow the competing bid to stand. If you allow the competing bid to stand, you will receive a compensation pick, based on the total value of the contract offered. Below is a matrix to show what the compensation pick value will be:
Total bid value Compensation pick $1-$4.75 Between 4th and 5th rounds $5-$9.75 Between 3rd and 4th rounds $10-$14.75 Between 2nd and 3rd rounds $15 and up Between 1st and 2nd rounds
4.2 - GM’s cannot offer draft pick compensation to entice another GM to nominate their RFA’s. The reason for this rule is tied to compensation pick value. Since the compensation picks have a certain value, they become a valuable piece to the owner of an RFA and trading a lower level pick for a higher level compensation pick. This rule will ensure a GM doesn’t choose a low level player as their RFA, trade a low level pick to another manager to start an auction, and then receive a compensation pick.
Team Option
5.1 - starting at 11:59 PM ET November 1st there follows a one week period if they so choose, are allowed to give a contract extension to 2 players entering free agency.
5.2 - Options can be carried over if unused in a previous year. You can carry over a max of 2 additional options, for a max of 4 options in any given year.
5.3 - the resigning of player will be based on the salary schedule below:
#1-25 End of Season Yahoo rank: 175% of previous contract #26-50 End of Season Yahoo rank: 150% of previous contract #51-100 End of Season Yahoo rank: 125% of previous contract #101+ End of Season Yahoo rank: 110% of previous contract
5.5- when optioning a player, that player may be assigned a contract between 1, 2 or 3 years max.
5.6 - after the auction period has ended and your player you tagged had a “right-to-match” was not selected during the auction, he become a free agent that will not garner a compensation pick.
Transactions
6.1 - all promotions, demotions, and disable list transactions must be posted with a new thread in the correct Roster move thread on Proboards. Each promotion, demotion and disable list must be post separately
6.2 - after the promotion/demotion/DL move has been posted on Proboards you must add/drop the player from the Yahoo roster. Your active roster should match exactly what is listed on the Official Rosters spreadsheet
6.3 - you can demote a player from your active roster to the MILB roster if they are placed on NA or 60-day DL status on Yahoo. NA can only be used for the following exceptions; suspensions and paternity leaves. They can also be demoted to the MILB roster if they have not exceeded 150 AB or 50 IP.
Revocable Waivers
7.1 - an active player or MILB player can be placed on waivers at any time. 7.2 - an individual thread is necessary for each player put on waivers to eliminate any confusion 7.3 - all teams interested can claim the player off waivers within the next 24 hours. 7.4 - the team with the best waiver priority (1 then 2 then 3, etc) will have the player added to their roster at the player's current salary and length of contract. The winning team must have an open roster spot within 24hrs for new player. 7.5 - waiver priority is rolling. The waiver list will be maintained on Proboards. 7.6 - If a player is claimed and the initial 24 hours period has passed, the team placing him on waivers can immediately announce they will release the player to the claiming team, has 48 hours to attempt to work out a trade with the claiming team, or can pull the player back from waivers.
7.7 - If the player is not claimed, not pulled back from waivers or isn't traded within the 48 hours, he returns to the original team that placed him on waivers. The team waiving can then buyout the player and release him, or the team can keep the player on their roster. Adding Players
8.1 - players can only be added to your active roster via the auction process to your MLR, and cannot be auctioned for the purposes of placing on your MILB roster.
8.2 - when creating an auction, a manager must have a vacant spot on his MLR or you can name a conditional player to drop, to either create a roster spot or free up cash to bid on a player. You're only allowed to name one conditional player per bid and you must name that player with your initial bid. Also, there are no substitutions for the original player named in the bid. If you win the bid, you'll have 24 hours to drop the conditional player and post under buyouts. If you don't win the bid, the conditional player will remain on your roster.
8.3 - as soon as a player has been sold that player will be transferred from the Yahoo player pool to the Yahoo roster of the team that won the auction by either the commissioner or the manager that won the player.
8.4 - from the end of week 20 until the opening of the February auction window it is not possible to add players to your active roster via auction, with exception of rule 8.5.
8.5 - There will be an exception to rule 8.4 for teams who make the playoffs. During the playoffs, teams that have qualified for the playoffs will be allowed to add players from the free agency pool if they have a player that goes on the DL or is designated NA and only to replace a player on the DL/NA. They will be considered DLR'S (Disabled List Replacements), at a cost of $1, and teams claiming a DLR must communicate to the league when the transaction takes place. At the end of the playoffs, the DLR will be removed from the team's roster. If the player on the DL/NA is activated during the playoffs, the DLR assigned to them must be dropped. In order to utilize a DLR, the team must have cap space to accommodate the DLR. DLR's are not eligible to become either RFA's or to be offered a team option.
8.6 - once the February auction window has closed auctions can be created any time after the first MLB game of the season has started
8.7 - a player can be put up for auction as soon as the game in which he satisfied the minimum AB or IP requirements has officially ended and which has been designated as 'Final' by MLB.
Dropping Players)
9.1 - a player can be dropped anytime during the allowable transaction timeframes (see rules 9.9 and 9.10
9.2 - a player will be considered to have been dropped when and only when a manager performs this action on the Proboards page
9.3 - with the exception of players on MILB rosters, dropping any player from your active roster carries a salary cap penalty.
9.4 - if you choose to drop a player from your active roster that is in the final, or only, year of his contract, you must offer a buyout for a total of one half of one year’s salary to that player, which will be decremented from your total cap limit.
9.5 - if you drop a player from your active roster that is not in the final year of his contract, you must offer a buyout for a total of one half of one year’s salary to the player for the current year, and one fourth of one year’s salary to the player for each remaining year on the contract, which will be decremented from your total cap limit for the appropriate years.
For example, a player won for $5 in 2018 who is given a 3 year contract, and who is dropped in 2018, will incur a penalty of $2.5 in 2816, and a penalty of $1.25 in both 2019 and 2020. So in this example, your salary cap for 2019 and 2020 would become $110.75, as opposed to $112. This would then free up $2.5 in salary in 2018, and $3.75 salary in 2019 and 2020, which you could then reallocate elsewhere.
New rule - Besides decrementing the penalty over the full contract, teams will have the option to take the full penalty in the current contract year. As example, if John Doe had a 3 year contract at $2.00 per year, a team can take the full $2.00 penalty ($1.00 in current year and $0.50 in the next two years) in the current contract year.
9.6 - once a player has been dropped, that player then becomes entirely freed from his contract. He becomes a free agent without a contract and so can have different contract terms attributed to him when picked up by another manager.
9.7 - if a player is dropped from the Proboards roster, another manager can start an auction for that player right away.
9.8 – a player who has announced he is going to retire (ex. P.Fielder) or perishes (ex. O.Tavares, J.Fernandez), may be dropped from your active roster at any time for zero cap hit, regardless of that player’s remaining contract length and salary. If a manager drops such a player, and that player then reverses his decision to retire and carries on playing, then the manager who dropped the player is not liable for any backdated cap penalty, providing the drop was made before the player announced his intention to continue playing.
9.9 - trades, demotions, promotions, waivers and buyouts will be available from November 8th to January 31st. Also, during the time from February 1st to the 1st game of the season, buyouts will be frozen.
9.10 - players can be cut from your active roster after the first MLB game has completed and until the conclusion of the playoffs, at which point all rosters are frozen. This is applicable to players that you have carried over from the previous season, and to players that you have won in auctions or free agency.
9.11 - New managers will be allowed one week to buyout 2 players on their roster with a reduced cap penalty. Instead of incurring a 50% cap penalty in the first year and 25% in future years, the cap penalty will be 25% for all remaining years, including this coming year.
9.12 - Tanaka rule: if a player, who’s under contract in SYR, signs a professional contract internationally, the GM can buyout the player’s contract for no penalty. Each team is allowed one buyout per season. Disabled List and NA Roster Spot
10.1 – each team has four DL spots and one NA spot available to them.
10.2 - a player is only considered to be on of the DL/NA when designated as such by Yahoo. A player will be considered to be reactivated from the DL/NA if either designated as such by Yahoo, or if it is clearly apparent that his return to the lineup for his MLB team is imminent (ie he is scheduled to be in his MLB teams starting line up on the same game day that you drop his DLR).
10.3 – if a player on your active roster goes on the DL/NA you may immediately move him to an available DL/NA spot and add any eligible player (see Rule 10.4) from the free agent pool, or from your minor league roster (see Rule 131), as a DL/NA replacement (DLR), up to a maximum of four times for a DL player and one time (5 Total) for NA player concurrently. When adding a player from the free agent pool as a DLR that player must remain on your roster for a minimum of 1 game day so as not to abuse his waiver status as per Rule 10.11.
10.4 - players ineligible to be picked up as DLRs are:
- players involved in active auctions - players on waivers (see Rule 10.11) - players on another team’s minor league roster - players that you have previously cut from your active roster - players who are without at least 1 PA or 0.1 IP at MLB level (with the exception of such players from your own minor league roster). Such players become available to be used as DLRs the day after* they have attained at least 1 PA or 0.1 IP in a game that has been declared 'final' by MLB. Such players availability for DLR service also depends on their waiver status; it is not possible to add such a player if he is still on waivers (see below).
*refers to the new Yahoo 'day' which begins at 00:01 PT.
- players added by Yahoo to the player pool during the season are subject to 48 hour waiver restrictions from the date they were added to the player pool and must clear waivers before becoming eligible for use as a DLR. A player added by Yahoo on a Monday will become available for use as a DLR on a Wednesday. Such players must also have attained a minimum of 1 PA or 0.1 IP the day before they can be added (see above) regardless of when they cleared waivers.
10.5 – players added from the FA pool as DLRs cost $1, and may only be allocated a DLR contract and as such are not considered part of your active roster. If you do not have sufficient salary remaining then you cannot add the player. You will have to free up cap space either by dropping a player, or through trading.
10.6 - DLR contracts are temporary, and at their maximum can only last the length of the season.
10.7 – when activating a player from the DL/NA back onto your roster, a player signed as a DLR may be dropped for zero cap hit.
10.8 - players that are signed to a DLR contract are not tied to a specific player on the DL/NA. You may choose to keep the same player on a DLR contract if you have multiple players rotating between your active roster and the DL/NA at the same time.
10.9 - when a player is activated after being on the DL/NA, a manager has two game days in which to drop a DLR. So if a player is activated from the DL/NA on a Monday, a manager has until before the commencement of Wednesday’s MLB games to drop a DLR. If a manager does not drop a DLR in that period the commissioner will make the necessary drop for that team. In the event that the team has more than one DLR the commissioner will drop the DLR who was added specifically for the returning player.
10.10 - you may not make use of a player activated from the DL/NA and his DLR at the same time. For example, if you reactivate a player from the DL/NA and move him to an empty roster spot then it would be possible to use both the player and his DLR at the same time. This is not allowed, either the player stays in a DL/NA spot for up to two days as in Rule 10.15 or if activated a DLR must be dropped.
10.11 - players dropped as DLRs are subject to the same 48 hour waiver rule as players cut from your active roster.
10.12 - if you drop a DLR without a player on your DL/NA being activated, then the 50% cap penalty will apply to the dropped DLR, with the exception of Rules 10.14 and 10.15.
10.13 - if you wish to swap DLRs by dropping the player you are currently using and switching to a different player then this action carries with it the 50% cap penalty on the dropped DLR.
10.14 - if you have a DLR who himself goes on the DL/NA then he may be dropped for zero cap hit and a fresh DLR may be picked up and installed in his place. A manager would not be able to add a fresh DLR for a current DLR should the current DLR go on the DL/NA. DLRs can only be attached to players on the active roster, and not to other DLRs.
10.15 - if you drop a player from your active roster who is listed as DL/NA then a DLR can be attached to that player and that DLR can be cut for zero cap hit when both players are dropped in combination.
10.16 – if you have a DLR that you wish to move to your active roster, then this can be done using the regular auction process, using the predefined auction rules. Throughout the auction the DLR will remain on your roster and will of course stay there if you win the auction. If the auction is won by another manager then the player will be removed from your roster and placed instead on the roster of the winning team as soon as he is sold. The $1 DLR fee assigned to the player will count as available salary during the auction, if necessary.
10.17 – you can only create auctions for DLRs on your own roster, and auctions for them must be started before the DL/NA replacement player is scheduled to go back to the FA pool, see Rule 63. In this case, the player must still return to the pool on schedule, but is ineligible to be used as a DLR by anyone else.
10.18 - auctions for DLRs onto your active roster can be done up until the roster freeze.
10.19 - if you wish to swap DLRs as in Rule 10.13 then this can only be done up until 11:59pm ET the day before our playoffs begin. During the playoffs DLRs already on rosters will be frozen, with the exception of circumstances stipulated in Rule 10.14, although you can however still pick up DLRs for any new injuries you sustain during the playoff period. And if you have a player come off the DL/NA in the playoff period then a DLR must still be dropped, as per Rule 10.9.
* please note that although this date signals the last opportunity to perform this action the limitations of our Yahoo league page may not allow for it if players from teams with a game in progress are involved. Managers will need to account for this accordingly.
10.20 - once the regular season of our Yahoo league has ended, managers who did not make, or have been eliminated from, the playoffs are not allowed to pick up or drop DLRs, even if they have corresponding events.
10.21 – at the end of the season, any player assigned to a DLR contract will be removed from the roster and will not be eligible for either the October auction or the team option contract.
10.22 - twelve hours from the last player being marked as SOLD! in the February auction window, according to the message board time stamp, there will then be a 48 hour period exclusively for picking up DLRs before any further auctions can be created and players can be dropped. Players with rookie status may not be added as DLR's until conclusion of the Minor League Draft.
Trading
11.1 - to conduct a trade a thread must be created in the ‘Trades’ section of this site.
11.2 - trades must have all of pertinent information of the players and draft picks that are involved. Player's name, position, salary and year the contract is up, draft pick year and any MILB players included.
11.3 - trades are not official until the commissioner has posted the “DONE - “ prefix before the subject title of the trade on Proboards.
11.4 - trades are passed by Commissioner, and will only get a poll should a manager post they have an issue with it in the “trade protest” section of this site. Trade protests should be stated should you believe it will affect the competitive balance of the league, a SIGNIFICANT imbalance in the trade, or you believe there to be collusion.
11.5 - in such an event that a poll is needed, the trade will either pass if there are 9 votes for, or it has more yes than no votes to pass after 72 hours
11.6 - trades are only not available from approximately August 14th to November 7th. Otherwise trades can be conducted at any time. Final trade date will be coordinated with Yahoo settings each season.
11.7 - trades will be automatically vetoed by the commissioner if a trade will put either party involved over their salary cap or active roster limits.
11.8 – when a trade is successful the commissioner will switch the players involved to the appropriate teams on the Proboards page. Managers will be responsible for switching the players on Yahoo (either by using the trade function or by adding and dropping the players in question. If there is an issue with one of the managers not dropping their respective players within a reasonable time frame the commissioner may do so on their behalf.
11.9 - it is possible to include financial concessions as part of any trade: “Cash Considerations”. A cash consideration is the simple handover of cash from one manager to another. Cash considerations can only be for current year only, and cannot be given for future years
11.10 - future considerations are not allowed with exception of draft picks. (No players to be named later, salary cap for future seasons). Trades can include current year draft picks and once the new season begins, draft picks can be traded for the next season. As example, once the 2019 season begins and trading is activated (Nov 7th), trades can include 2020 picks.
11.11 - a trade that involves a player that is traded for nothing in return can only be done if that player has cleared waivers beforehand
11.12 - trades are not valid until both parties agree to the trade and post as such on the Proboards site. Trades will not be processed until the corresponding manager posts that he also agrees to the trade.
11.13 - if you have a trade vetoed then you are not allowed to repost the same trade.
11.14 - the trading of players on your MLR, as well as the trading of picks for that years minor league draft rounds, is permissible. These can be included as a part of any trade.
11.15 - you may not exchange picks for future minor league drafts beyond the following season in trades.
Awards
12.1 - The Salary Cap will be increased for teams that have players that win Player of the Week, Player of the Month, Pitcher of the Month, Rookie of the Month, CY Young and League MVP in the previous year. The team needs to own that player at the time they won their respective award to get the bonus.
Player of the Week - 0.25 Player of the Month - 0.50 Pitcher of the Month - 0.50 Rookie of the Month - 0.50 CY Young - 1.00 MVP - 1.00
Statement of Activity / Code of Conduct
13.1 - Managers that are not active will be removed from their team and replaced with a manager who is more active should they not maintain their roster on Proboards and Yahoo. If rosters are not updated on Yahoo, and there is no login on Proboards for a matter of weeks without their being prior notice, it is entirely likely you will be replaced.
13.2 - Abusive language or a demeanour that aggravates the league as a whole to make the experience less enjoyable for all can get you removed from the league.
Minor League Rules
15.4 - there is no minor league DL, and players with minor league contract cannot be placed on the DL.
Minor League Eligibility
16.1 - MiLB Players are limited to 150 career MLB ABs, 50 career MLB IPs for Pitchers at the start of the season. Players that are placed on the 60-day DL can be demoted to MILB rosters as well, even if they exceed the ab and ip limits. Players who are designated as N/A by their teams for suspensions can be demoted to the MILB, even if they exceed the ab and ip limits. However, in any other instance, to drop a player with N/A designation, they will have to be under the ab and ip limits.
16.2- Any player moved to the Minors Roster needs to be removed from your Yahoo Roster.
16.4 - In the event that a player who was demoted to the Minors as a 60-day DL or N/A status for suspension or paternity leave is activated, managers have 7 days to promote the player before the commissioner promotes the player on their behalf.
16.5 - players can not be bought out in the Minors that are on the 60-day DL. They must be promoted to the active roster before being bought out.
Minor League Transactions
17.1 - Minor League players can be bought out 48 hours after being placed on waivers.
17.2 -from November 1st to November 6th managers are obligated to promote all players who have exceeded the limits for Upper Minor League players. There is no backward motion between the active roster and the MiLR during this time period, unless there is no room on your active roster from a forced promotion from your MiLR.
17.3 – when you promote a player from your MiLR to your active roster and you do not have an empty roster spot, then you will need to demote any player that still as upper minor league status first, and be forced to buyout a player if there is no such player.
17.4 - once a player with a minor league contract is promoted to the active roster, the player's contract becomes a MLB contract and the salary counts against the MLB salary cap immediately.
17.5 - if a team does not have sufficient cap room to promote a player the player cannot be promoted until cap room is made via a trade or buyout.
17.6 – when promoting from the MiLR to your active roster a notification of this must be made in the 'Promotions' section of this Proboard.
17.7 - players not promoted will remain stored on your MiLR indefinitely, their status being re-evaluated at the beginning of each new season
Minor League Draft
21.1 - at the beginning of each season all sixteen teams are awarded a single default pick for each round of the following seasons MLD. A team’s total number of picks in the MLD can increase or decrease from the default of six overall picks through trading
21.2 – teams are allocated a position in the draft based upon their regular season finish of the previous season.
21.3 - any blatant indication that a team has purposefully tanked in its performance, deliberately negating its competitiveness with the sole intention of gaining a higher draft position, will be considered an abuse of the system. Such abuses will result in the forfeiture of the higher draft position gained in this way and discretion will be exercised to determine the final draft position of that team.
21.4 - the draft method employed is the traditional standard ‘pick’ format. Managers are required to simply state the name of the player, and his parent club, on the appropriate thread when it is their turn to pick.
21.5 - Managers will be given 24 hours to make their selection when it’s their turn to draft. If a manager fails to make their pick within the 24 hour allotment, they will be skipped and the next team up will be able to make their selection. The commissioner will state this on the draft thread. In this situation the manager that was skipped may declare his pick(s) at any subsequent point in the draft but will not be able to select a player that has already been drafted by a manager picking 'after' him. The 24 hour clock resets once a pick is made, even if a team has back to back picks.
21.6 - once a manager has declared which player he is selecting that decision may not be retracted
21.7 - once a player has been released from your MiLR you may not redraft that player in the subsequent MLD, assuming he is still eligible, nor can you sign that player for the rest of that season until he has been added and dropped from the active roster of another team
Minor League Draft and Promotions
22.1 - the MLD is a 6 round draft starting on January 7th. Any player that has not exceeded 150 AB or 50 IP, that were not drafted in the entry draft for that particular year are available
22.2 - All Minor League Players will sign 4 year contracts based on the scale below.
- players drafted in the 1st round or in compensation round cost 2.00 in the season you promote them, 3.00 in their 2nd season and 4.00 in the third and fourth years
- players drafted in the 2nd and 3rd round cost 1.50 in the season you promote them, 2.50 in their 2nd season and 3.50 in the third and fourth years
- players drafted in both the 4th and 5th and 6th rounds cost 1.00 in the season you promote them, 2.00 in their second season and 3.00 in the third and fourth years.
22.3 - a player is eligible for the draft if they’ve been signed to a contract with a MLB team. This includes international players.
22.4 - the MLD is conducted within the 'minor league drafts' section of this Proboard, on the appropriate sub-board for the year in question.
22.5 - when promoting a player from your MiLR to your active roster there is a salary cost attached to the player, and so to promote the player you must have the sufficient salary space needed in order to make the move.
22.6 - If a player has surpassed the 150 AB/ 50 IP limits, the salary would start the next year automatically. If you choose to promote that player that year to the active roster you are kicking in the 4 year salary structure immediately.
22.7 - if you promote a player from your MiLR to your active roster, and then cut that player at some point in the future, then the salary attributed to the player in the year in which he was dropped will be used as the base salary for calculating the cap penalty.
For example, a player drafted in the first round will cost 2.00 in the season you promote them, 3.00 in their second season and 4.00 in the third and 4th years. So if the player was dropped in the second year of his contract then 3.00 would be used as the base salary for determining the cap penalty, which in this example would be 1.50 for that year, and 0.75 for every subsequent year of their contract.
