So trying to fill out my roster since I missed out on free agency and want to make sure I get the rules of this league. If Austin Slater signed with the White Sox and then afterwards we start bidding on him will we have him for the winning bid amount or his real life salary? I thought I had this down but then when I won Austin Hays I got him for the real life amount.

You'd have him at the bid amount.
It's like this:
Player is a FA in real life -> you sign him for $1M here -> He signs a real life contract for $2M/1 year -> His salary here turns to $2M
Player signs a deal in real life for $1M -> You sign him here for $3M as a free agent-> His salary here is $3M

Thank you! I think I have it. But I also can't put a player like JD Martinez or Tim Anderson up for bid until he signs somewhere? I guess that is where my confusion came in.

But whatever he signs for in real life will then supersede that bid. So if you win him for $500K and then he signs with someone in real life for $3M, you'll have to change his salary over to $3M in the league as well. That's a big reason why someone like Max Scherzer hasn't been bid on yet. Folks are waiting to try to get him at a discount by getting him on a TPB contract.

I thought you said you were gonna drop Austin Hays if you were allowed. And I believe someone granted you grace for just joining

The simplest statement of the general rule is the salary amount is the later (by date) of the TPB bid or his most recent irl contract.
