I'm leaning total bases as well at this point.

I would vote approve for total bases, but I'm a veto on SLG% at this point. Would suggest we replace hits with TB. seems to be the general consensus. Yup, 3 loud owners out of 30. Aka the TPB consensus

trading hits for total bases makes sense. Also with hitting even if a team stockpiled a monster bench of bats there are only the 9 slots to put them in every day so it isn't like there is a way to compile much more TB easily over your opponent by manipulating your bench anyway. And I agree I don't like those cats where a guy with one player can win them because his player went 2/4 with a HR and a double.

I don't get the complaints about one guy winning the average stats. It's simple: make a minimum ABs requirement for hitting stats (which we should do anyways)

Yeah, ESPN defaults are crazy low I think.

Why don't we keep hits, add walks, and drop all ratios?
Let's make it a league totally based off quantity

Weird that the guys pushing for XBH over slg% are the teams with the deepest lineups and bench

The fact that we have ridiculously low or non-existent weekly AB and IP requirements is disturbing. I'm not really in much of a position to say much about it because I am one who likely will benefit from increasing them. I also think that
(1) We have too many players on our ESPN rosters; (2) The Salary caps need adjusting upwards; and (3) I don't understand and don't want to understand the IFA pool rule.

I also think that (1) We have too many players on our ESPN rosters; If you think trying to add SLG% is a struggle, try decreasing rosters.(2) The Salary caps need adjusting upwards; and It's well above MLB average(3) I don't understand and don't want to understand the IFA pool rule. It will help alleviate some of the strain of the salary cap going to IFA"s and will allow everybody to compete for them instead of currently just the teams with a lot of available cap getting them.

I'd be in favor for cutting the rosters down from 31 to 29 or 28, but that's just me.
Would prefer to add SLG % to total bases, but total bases is an upgrade from having both hits and batting average.

I'll just go with SLG % since I don't care that much but it does make it so that some teams can't just throw their depth in willy nilly

Weird that the guys pushing for XBH over slg% are the teams with the deepest lineups and bench Even if you have a bench with 15 batters how is that going to help you get a bunch more total bases? Unless you are psychic and know who is going to hit all the doubles, triples and HR that day. You will play your best 9 players, just like always and hope for the best. SLG% will work fine if there is some sort of minimum ABs that make sense for a week of play, otherwise just like Nats pointed out there is a temptation to bench your whole lineup once you know you have locked up BA, SLG%, Ks, OBP because your team went 10 for 18 the first day.

You're argument and Brewers were that its insane that doubles and triples aren't counted. Total bases counts them. It also doesn't screw over teams that planned their teams for the category of hits. It's the easiest transition.

Here goes:
We have pretty close to 100% activity from every manager in the league on a daily basis and a couple days worth of discussion here. Maybe send out a League wide PM or email to everyone for a last chance to have their say on the idea of Hits being replaced.
It appears Hits is the category on the chopping block. Hits being replaced by Total Bases is pretty much a non-arguable switch, when Hits is already counted in TB, but TB being inclusive of 2B, 3B & HR. So now players 2B & 3B are counted that previously weren't. A small issue that comes up with this change is that HR's is a stat now counted twice, which is less of a problem to me than not acknowledging 2B's & 3B's.
1. Me personally I'm good with either TB's or SLG replacing Hits, Hits definitely should not stay. 2. With the league wide PM or email are there any other ideas from the league solely discussing replacing Hits with TB or SLG. 3. Delete this thread. 4. Either the Admins decide on TB or SLG replacing Hits, or it goes to a League vote, TB or SLG.....majority wins
Then this long running topic can be put to bed.
The next topic that needs to be discussed in a similar manner to this thread is the July 2nd IFA signees money. July 2nd isn't too far off and it'll give teams time to plan based on their allotments if we go to that system. If we were to create a separate pool of money for the July 2nd IFA's it'll alleviate salary cap problems some teams have put themselves in and should stifle the cap rumblings we hear every so often.

I agree wholeheartedly with Reds here. We've had plenty of discussion. Time to take some action on the matter.

Agree, Ok, let's get this done.
As of 2015 season, we will swap a counting stat for a counting stat and replace Hits with Total Bases.
This way we have no more or no less ratio stats and yet we give proper value to doubles and triples rather than just counting them as a 'Hit'.
Steve seems to prefer this, as do I, Tim - you good with this ?
If Tim is happy, let's implement it into the rules for 2015 and start a new thread for IFA. Once that is done we can start a new thread for pitching categories as that seems a little more controversial.

Fine by me. I think it's an easy transition. I tend to agree with Rays and others that the average stat like SLG % would be better, but it seems like the majority can agree to Total Bases so let's just go with that pushing forward.

OK. I do prefer TB but I'm fine with SLG% if we put a fairly strong minimum on the ABs to discourage people from pulling the plug on their lineup after the first day or action. Say 100 ABs or something.
