Ken Griffey just retired and he was on Seattle's roster for $2 mil. How are retired players treated? Can the retired player be removed from the roster for his bench spot by LM request with nothing additional needed? Does the retired player's salarystill count against a team's cap until the season concludes? Or, does the act of retirement free the team for the roster spot and the salary? Or, does half the retiring player's salary count against the team's cap, similar to a player that has been waived but not signed by another club?
Thanks

I believe in the case of retirement you can release the player and their entire payroll immediately. I think that is what we did with Eric Gagne who retired, makes the most sense to me anyway. Hats off to Ken Griffey Jr you can use that 2 mil to throw him a sweet retirement bash.

I know they are a long way off and I'm not even in the hunt presently...but, who makes the playoffs? Are we doing top teams in the divisions plus a wild card like in MLB? or another playoff set-up?

It is in the rules Mets but I'll explain anyway.
The 3 division winners from the NL and the 3 from the AL make it. Then 3 wild card teams from the NL and 3 from the AL. So thats 6 playoff teams from each league. Its kind of like the NFL playoffs because the top 2 seeds in each league get first round byes.

Gotcha, I do appreciate you clarifying. I have to admit, since we transferred to ESPN I seldom check this sight. Sorry to all who I have accidentally ignored. I will try and do better about checking proboards

shaun marcum threw a pretty good game today (6 innings of 1 run ball) and i started him but ESPN didn't record his stats. i'm assuming they'll fix it but i just thought i should say something just in case they dont. i just don't want end up losing my matchup this week because of a scoring mistake.

Your right, I just looked and they didnt upload the stats. I looked on frequently asked questions and it said this:
"It's possible that over the course of the seven month FLB season some scoring plays and player statistics may be recorded incorrectly. The deadline for all weekly scoring or stat corrections made by the system is one week from the day that game was played during the MLB season. Any changes entered in the system will automatically reflect in both your Box Score and your Standing's pages."
So maybe they will fix it. If not you should probably send them an email if possible to tell them about it.

Do we have a trade deadline for the league?
If so when is it?

Several owners discussed this question online yesterday and we figure the last day of the regular season would be or should be the trade deadline. We haven't gotten an official ruling on this. Anyone have an idea?

I have a question about Jermaine Dye since he never signed a major league contract and in the rules it states that " For you to sign a player they need to have signed a MLB contract in real life" what would happen if i released him?
Another part since Ken Griffey's salary got taken off right away when he retired i think dye's should be since he's not playing and basically retired and it's a kinda big contract to keep on the books for someone that's not playing at the current time.

Ya, Dye can be cut with no penalty.

is there any chance that we will have an extra-base hits cat. next year because, as it stands, a double or triple doesn't help your team any more than a single?

I agree D-Backs, Can't switch it this year but I think next year we should replace batter K's with extra base hits. Thats just what i think....

I'd suggest either OPS or Slugging % rather than extra base hits.

We have to keep pitching and hitting cats even. I dont want to take out strikeouts though. We could add extra base hits and then one pitching cat.

i think we need to keep the k's even though they're killing me this year.
i was thinking we could do complete games but they might be a little too rare so there would be a lot of ties in that cat.
another option would be splitting WHIP into walks and hits.

Why do we need to add more categories at all? Better to trim one from each pitching and hitting. Or leave everything alone.
