I'm already 31M under my paltry cap of 106M. In a couple of seasons Verlander and his 28M will go away. Give me 5M more in cap space, please.

Maybe you'll get a wildcard this year.

I got a couple big contracts you could have for a season or two. Oh wait, no I don't. I had to get rid of them. Someone prolly picked them up for cheap as FAs.

I still am of the opinion that it balances out. I don't acquire players that are going to reprice and get expensive in the offseason because I know that I won't be able to control it. I don't have a problem with there being more players on TPB contracts.

I don't have a problem with there being more players on TPB contracts. This is a huge turning point then if we're going to go down the path of so many players being on TPB contracts. I personally would prefer the cap keep up with inflation, but ultimately you do a lot more work around here than I do (and tracking all those contracts would be even more work). Maybe something the league should vote on?

must admit I would prefer for us to stay with the majority of our contracts real life contracts ... just helps to stay more realistic rather than too many TPB contracts.
Given the rate that real life contracts are increasing, I don't think it's unrealistic for us to increase caps by $5M every three years (roughly). When was our last $5M increase ? I think it would have been 3 or 4 years ago. I know we gave some relief two or three years ago with the drop to $500K for minimum salaries.
I would recommend a vote, after all majority should rule.

Agree on the vote and on keeping as many real life contracts as possible. Like Cards saying it isn't unrealistic to get a $5M raise every few years either as contracts in real baseball are on the rise.

Just throwing it out there, but the average MLB team salary jumped apx 5M last year. I'd think a 5M cap raise might be needed every year

I think we should review it each year rather than committing to an extra $5M every year though. Tim, you happy for me to post a poll yay or nay for this year $5M across the board cap increase with max up to $165M ?

I'm okay with posting a poll but I would agree with the sentiment that it would be pretty crappy for teams who have already made cuts in anticipation of a salary crunch. Personally, I would want the 5M increase for next year.

If we were having this discussion in February I would agree but it's only November. I don't care either way, I have already made cuts and should therefore have no cap issues but I'm happy to go with whatever the majority wants.

No point in pushing it back again.

A quick sigh at the instant and overwhelming vote for inflation relief but zero interest in addressing it longterm. See y'all next year for more of the same!
