" I don't know why that [HRs] came into the conversation. "
Because HRs have a major impact on total bases -- significant would be an understatement.

" I don't know why that [HRs] came into the conversation. " Because HRs have a major impact on total bases -- significant would be an understatement. That goes without saying. And doubles & triples have an escalatingly greater value than a single, which is not recognized in this league. In this league, a single is just as valuable as a double or triple, does that make sense?

I play in a league with TB and iI think it's more accurate valuation of a players offensive production. OPS gives you the best measure of a player in relation to total bases. Some of the biggest HR hitters also K a ton so in actuality they aren't skewing the numbers too much. It's a cool suggestion, maybe one that could be incorporated at a later point?

I don't know why you wouldn't be trying to get HR hitters anyways? Since we have HR, RBI and R as categories too...

I'm learning a lot, on more accurate real life player valuations from some saber-friendly posters in other Dynasty Leagues & forums I'm in or frequent. Keeping OBP as a stand alone category from OPS is optimal, which is why I suggested the switch from Hits where a (1B=2B=3B). You incorporate TB, or you could incorporate SLG but keep it separate from OBP. I don't mind if a switch is done at a later point (2014) as I mentioned in my original post on the topic. Its also good keeping a balance of rate stats & counting stats between pitchers and hitter categories

No, I'm saying OPS gives you all the things you are asking for, not that is should be a category. So if we all were to sit here and evaluate our rosters in relation to a category change, OPS is a good indicator on whether or not your team would be "trashed". And since certain guys have OBP of over .400 and hit 30+ HRS it's a good bet that a TB category wouldn't bring ruin to your team.

I love the drama ... the world will come to an end if we change from hits to total bases.

I'll probably go from (almost) last place to first.

What are the stat categories going to be next year? I'm not on ESPN since I just joined and there seems to be some debate about making changes anyway...

Here's an example of what it looks like: games.espn.go.com/flb/boxscorefull?leagueId=4659&teamId=15&scoringPeriodId=182&seasonId=2013&view=scoringperiod&version=fullAnd yes, there had been some debate about making changes. Adding in SLG % and then potentially adding in # of innings pitched (to even the hitting/pitching categories) was I believe an idea. There was a league wide vote that instead suggested that we just implement OPS and remove OBP, but thankfully it doesn't look like that's going to happen. Removing OBP at all would be a colossal mistake. But yeah, take a look at the link and it will show you the categories that we use.

Thanks...honestly, I'm really surprised to see QS/W/L all there. And I can see why people might want to inject a little more power into the equation.

I'm not big on having W/L in there but I'm all about QS. And as far as the power thing, it seems like owners don't want to add another pitching category if SLG % was added, and like I said before they voted to just implement OPS and remove OBP, but that would be an incredibly idiotic thing to do. OBP is the most important offensive stat IMO. At this point it looks like things will stay the same.. at least for another one or two years. Hoping that other owners come around to adding another pitching category so we can get SLG % in there without having to remove a hitting category (I actually wouldn't mind removing hits for SLG % but that isn't a very popular idea).

Sorry Nats, I had colordo's 10th rd. I messed up in typing it is what it looks like. You can have Colorado's 9th rd. pick from me which improves your slot a couple numbers. Sorry for the mess up.

This changes everything. I demand we roll back the league to the exact moment this trade occurred in order to make this right.

Can I send down any player who ended this minor league season in the minors, even if they pitched over 50 innings the previous year (2013), or do I have to wait for the offseason so that this year is the previous year?
